Kim Whanki’s “Untitled 3-V-71 #203”(1971), left, and “Untitled”(1964-65). [SEOUL AUCTION, K AUCTION]

The Kim Whanki (1913-74) boom continues in the Asian art market hub of Hong Kong. Seoul Auction said Sunday that the Korean abstract art pioneer’s 1971 painting “Untitled 3-V-71 #203” sold for 30 million Hong Kong dollars ($3.86 million), becoming the third most expensive Korean artwork ever auctioned. The first- and second-place records were also set by works of Kim at Hong Kong auctions.
And K Auction said on Saturday that Kim’s 1964-65 painting “Untitled” sold for 6.7 million HK dollars - the highest sale of the evening.
