Drug Restaurant denies plagiarizing song

Singer Jung Joon-young’s rock band Drug Restaurant denied on Thursday that the band plagiarized a song by Irish band Two Door Cinema Club.

C9 Entertainment, which represents the Korean band, made an official statement regarding the issue.

In response to accusations that Drug Restaurant’s “Mistake,” released in May, plagiarized the Irish band’s “Someday,” the statement said that “although the band was inspired, they did not plagiarize.”

“Although one of the members, Joe Damon, was musically inspired by Two Door Cinema Club, as he pursues a similar style, the song was not a copy.”

On July 27, the Irish rock band sarcastically wrote on Twitter, “Nice to see we’ve inspired someone…” and included a link to a clip of Drug Restaurant’s controversial song.

Drug Restaurant debuted in May 2015 under the name Jung Joon-young Band but changed it after a year. Their songs include “OMG,” “Sunset” and “Sexy Bomb.”
