Court sides with Kim Hyun-joong on abuse

The court sided with singer-turned-actor Kim Hyun-joong over the latest civil damage suit filed by his ex-girlfriend, who requested 1.6 billion won ($1.5 million) from Kim last year for allegedly miscarrying due to physical abuse from the celebrity.

“It is difficult to acknowledge the plaintiff’s claim,” said the Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday afternoon. “The plaintiff will have to give one hundred million won in compensation and damages to the defendant.”

Prosecutors had been focused on three main facts regarding the case. They are whether Kim’s ex-girlfriend was truly pregnant, and if so, whether abuse by Kim was the main reason for her miscarriage. They also sought to determine whether or not Kim tried to force the woman to have an abortion. However, they eventually ruled that all the three claims lacked concrete evidence.

Kim and his former girlfriend have been involved in legal battles since 2014. The woman first accused Kim in May 2014 of causing her to miscarry, but later dropped the charge, saying she didn’t want Kim punished. She revived the suit in April 2015, demanding 1.6 billion won from Kim for the “mental damage” he caused her.
