Power in puppetry

Artist and winner of the 16th Hermes Foundation Missulsang prize Geumhyung Jeong, 36, stands among the props she used in her previous artistic performances. The objects that range from dolls and masks to fitness equipment and drones make up her solo exhibition, “Private Collection,” which runs through Oct. 23 at the Atelier Hermes, located near the Dosan Park crossroads in southern Seoul. The displays hanging from the ceiling show past performances, so audiences will come to see how she used the objects. She assembled them to make grotesque male characters and has them perform in gestures full of sexual tensions, raising questions about voyeurism and the power struggle in sexual relationships.
