Chairman of the ruling Saenuri Party Lee Jung-hyun has kicked off a hunger strike. He is protesting Assembly speaker Chung Sye-kyun’s alleged attempt to help reject a resolution to fire the troubled Minister of Agriculture Kim Jae-soo for corruption charges in return for extending the term for the special committee to probe into the 2014 Sewol ferry tragedy. The Assembly speaker is not allowed to represent his party.
