Airbnb expands beyond beds to add custom tours

The move is considered to be most significant since the company was founded eight years ago.
“Until now, Airbnb has been about homes,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb CEO. “Today, Airbnb is launching Trips, bringing together where you stay, what you do, and the people you meet all in one place. We want to make travel magical again.”
Using the same system it has with accommodations, the new platform provides custom travel experiences such as paid tours and outings.
For example, local experts can design unique travel experiences based on personalized passions and interests such as attending a Samurai Swordplay workshop, driving a class car in Malibu or making violins in Paris.
The company has about 500 experiences in 12 cities including Seoul, Tokyo, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Cape Town.
