Imfact makes a stylish statement

Some members of the group participated in “The Unit,” a KBS entertainment show that trained unsuccessful pop singers, while the group took a break for about a year. Having reunited, the members are now getting their hopes up that they will make an “impact” on the entertainment industry. The group is releasing its new album “The Light” today.
“Through doing ‘The Unit,’ I have come to realize how precious having my team is,” said Ung-jae, one of the group’s members, during an interview with Ilgan Sports, an affiliate of the Korea JoongAng Daily. The following are edited excerpts from the interview.
Q. Describe the process of making your latest single “The Light.”
Tae-ho: The song talks about our dream to be onstage as much as we can, and how much we want to talk about music.
What was your first impression of the song?
Sang: I think the song is addictive. The producer said [we] should sing like we are free artists, and we followed.
Ung-jae: The song uses elements of drum and bass and we hope this is a chance to expand our musical spectrum.
What’s the concept for the new song?
Ung-jae: For now, we are focused on having a fancy and eye-catching style. We decided to show some shocking changes to entertain our fan’s ears and eyes. I’m wearing nail polish and Ji-an and Sang got hair extensions.
Ji-an: The long hair has been really confusing for me. Hair keeps going into my mouth whenever I dance or eat. I now know why women always put their hair behind their ears.
Je-up: Fans have said that they were surprised after the teasers for the song were released. It might be overwhelming, but since we have put a lot of time and effort into making it work, we are confident that we can pull off the new style.
Are there any particular television shows you want to be a part of?
Je-up: I want to be on a program where we can promote our group. I remember that we got a lot of attention after we took part in “I See Your Voice” on Mnet. So we want to appear on music entertainment shows like “Sketchbook” or “Immortal Song 2: Singing the Legend” on KBS, or “King of Mask Singer” on MBC.
What goals do you have?
Sang: I want to show how much we have grown. Although we worked with The Black Label this time, we plan on continuing to compose and write our own songs and lyrics.

임팩트 ”최초 더블랙레이블 협업, 이미지 변신”
5인조 보이그룹 임팩트를 1년 5개월만에 만났다. 가요계 반란을 일으키겠다며 당찬 각오를 다졌던 신인이었는데 "이젠 꼭 이름을 알려야 한다"는 분명한 목표를 세운 3년차 아이돌의 모습이었다. 단단한 포부는 비주얼로 드러났다. 강렬한 피어싱과 목걸이, 매니큐어, 붙임머리 등 그야말로 파격변신을 택했다. 1년 여 공백기간 동안 KBS2 아이돌리부팅 프로젝트 '더유닛'에 몰입했던 임팩트는 "이제 완전체로 가요계 확실한 임팩트를 남기겠다"고 다시 한 번 파이팅을 외쳤다.
-완전체 활동은 오랜만이다.
웅재 "'더유닛'을 통해 우리 팀의 소중함을 깨닫게 됐다. 이제 우리가 보여드리고 싶은 것, 해보고 싶었던 것을 해보고자 한다."
-신곡 '빛나'는 어떤 곡인가.
지안 "더블랙레이블과 협업했다. 그동안 작사작곡한 노래로 컴백했는데 첫 외부작곡가를 만났다. 우리만의 또 다른 색깔을 보여드릴 수 있을 것 같아 기대된다."
태호 "꿈이라는 단어를 주제로 해서 우리한테도 꿈같은 곡이다. 음악적으로도 이야기를 많이 들려주고 싶고 무대에 많이 서보고 싶다는 소소한 꿈이 담겼다. 지금처럼 그래왔듯 진정성 있는 모습으로 활동에 임하려한다."
-처음 노래 들었을 때 어땠는지.
이상 "'빛나'라는 후렴구가 중독성이 있다고 생각했다. 기존에 했던 음악들도 있지만 이번엔 새롭게 다시 시작하는 마음으로 준비를 했던 것 같다. 프로듀서 형이 자유로운 아티스트 느낌 나왔으면 좋겠다고 말씀해주셔서 디렉션을 많이 따랐다."
웅재 "드럼앤 베이스 장르라는 임팩트로서는 생소한 음악일 수 있다. 음악적 스펙트럼 넓힐 수 있는 계기가 될 것 같다."
-'차브스타일'이라는 새로운 컨셉트던데.
웅재 "화려한 스타일링이 우리만의 강점이다. 눈과 귀가 함께 즐거운 무대를 만들고자 파격 변신을 택했다. 나는 매니큐어를 발랐고 지안과 이상은 머리를 붙였다."
지안 "긴 머리 때문에 난감했다. 춤을 추거나 밥을 먹을 때 자꾸 입으로 들어가서 불편하더라. 여성분들이 머리를 왜 귀 뒤로 자꾸 넘기는지 알게 됐다. 매력 어필이 아니라 정말 필요해서 하는 동작이다."
제업 "팬 분들도 티저 공개 후 많이 놀랐다고 했다. 남들이 하지 않는 새로운 컨셉트를 우리가 잘 소화해서 아티스트라는 수식어를 듣고 싶다. 보기에 부담스러울 수 있겠지만 노력하고 준비한 과정들이 있기 때문에 잘 소화할 자신이 있다."
-출연하고 싶은 예능이 있다면.
제업 "우리 팀을 알리는 프로그램에 나가고 싶다. Mnet '너의 목소리가 보여'에 출연한 이후 많은 분들이 관심을 주셨던 기억이 있다. MBC '복면가왕', KBS2 '불후의 명곡' '스케치북' 등 음악 예능에 다시 한 번 나가고 싶다."
웅재 "멤버들과 JTBC '아는형님'을 즐겨본다. 불러주신다면 정말 열심히, 잘 할 수 있다."
-이번 활동에 임하는 각오는.
이상 "계속해서 성장하는 모습을 보여주고 싶다. 이번에는 더블랙레이블과 협업하고 있지만 우리도 꾸준히 작사작곡을 하고 있다. 음악적 스펙트럼을 넓히는 계기가 되길 바란다."
