Gov’t launches seminar on self-driving vehicle hacking

The government launched a three-day seminar on cybersecurity for autonomous vehicles today.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Monday, the meeting is the 12th since the Task Force on Cyber Security and Over the Air Issue (TFCS) was formed between a number of countries including Britain, Japan, Germany, the United States, France and the Netherlands at the end of 2016.

The ministry added that the meeting in Seoul is the final one, and a guideline on cybersecurity and international safety standards on autonomous vehicles will be finalized during the event.

The guidelines will be announced by the end of the year.

“Hacking is an important issue for autonomous vehicle safety and we are reviewing countermeasures against the threat,” said Kim Chae-gyu, the ministry’s motor vehicle management director general.
