Twice’s new release conquers Japan

Girl group Twice topped Japan’s Oricon Weekly Albums Chart with their sixth mini album “YES or YES,” according to the music company on Tuesday.

“The group’s mini album ‘YES or YES’ is the first imported album to reach No.1 in Oricon’s Weekly Albums Chart, earning 33,000 points [based on physical album sales],” the company announced.

The group previously reached No.1 with their first Japanese album “BDZ” in September.

The news comes as no surprise, considering the album’s immediate success following its release on Nov. 5. On the day of the release, the album reached No.1 on the iTunes charts in 17 regions, including Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, according to JYP Entertainment.

The title track also topped the charts of seven different weekly music charts on Monday, including Melon, Mnet, Genie Music and Bugs.

Twice debuted in 2015 with the album “The Story Begins,” and has released a slew of hits including “Cheer Up” (2015), “TT” (2016), “Signal” (2017) and “Likey” (2017).
