Wannabe stars get another chance

Mnet will introduce its fourth edition of “Produce 101” for male contestants next year, featuring wannabe K-pop stars from around the world, the South Korean music channel said Saturday.

“Produce X 101” will search for the new talent regardless of their nationality and target the global music market, Mnet said.

Males born before March 2005 can apply for the “global idol project” by mid-January. Applicants should send their profile, an introduction and video clips via email, the music channel said.

Wanna One, a project boy band bringing together 11 winners from the second edition of “Produce 101,” has been a smash hit. The group swept the domestic music charts in 2017.

The first and third editions were also seen as successful. They brought a number of successful girl-group trainees into the spotlight.
