Microdot’s parents given jail time

Rapper Microdot’s parents were sentenced to jail time on Tuesday for pocketing money from friends and family and then fleeing the country.

The Cheongju District Court ruled the rapper’s father - surnamed Shin - to three years in jail and his mother - surnamed Kim - to one year in jail.

“The defendants borrowed money when they were already in debt, and recklessly continued with their own farm business. They fled to New Zealand and did not made any efforts to restore the damage done to the victims,” the court said.

Shin and Kim were charged with not paying back 400 million won that they had borrowed from 14 close friends and relatives while running a cattle farm from 1990 to 1998 in Jecheon, North Chungcheong. They left the country in May 1998.

The ruling indicated there were 10 victims who claimed that they were owed a total of 390 million won because the couple had settled and paid 210 million won back to some of the victims prior to the ruling.

In November, a group of people claiming that the rapper’s parents had taken money from them posted a complaint online claiming they were living in misery while the rapper was talking about his happy childhood on TV.

It started a series of revelations regarding the family members of celebrities pocketing other people’s money, including singer Rain and rapper Dok2.
