f(x) tops Billboard 2010s albums list

Billboard named girl group f(x)’s album “Pink Tape” No. 1 on its list of “25 Greatest K-Pop Albums of the 2010s” published on Tuesday, U.S. time.

“Pin it on the glimpses of global success that acts like Psy and Girls’ Generation afforded, but when K-pop’s record labels set their sights on global appeal in the early decade, they reached out for it in their music,” said Billboard.

“The period’s best albums construct a brilliant mosaic of past and future, West and East, sophistication and camp, avant-garde and earworm.”

Compiled by the staff at Billboard, the list also included G-Dragon of Big Bang’s 2017 album “Kwon Ji Yong” for his “melancholic and punchy” songs. The album drew attention for its experimental music and the fact that it was released in the form of a portable USB instead of a CD.

Other albums on the list included Twice’s “Fancy You” (2019) at No. 24, Big Bang’s EP “Alive” (2012) at No. 22, 2NE1’s “Crush” (2014) at No. 18, Exo’s “Love Shot” (2018) at No. 16 and SHINee’s “The Story of Light: Epilogue” (2018) at No. 11.

Albums from soloists also performed well on the list, including Kahi with “Please Come Back” (2011) at No. 17, Heize’s “She’s Fine” (2019) at No. 10, the late Jonghyun’s “She Is” (2016) at No. 9, Younha’s “RescuE” (2017) at No. 8 and IU’s “Modern Times” (2013) at No. 2.

BTS was the only group to have two albums on the list: “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever” (2016) at No. 3 and “Wings” (2016) at No. 20.
