Music in PyeongChang (MPyC), a classical music festival held biannually in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon, announced that it is wrapping up the festival as of Sunday evening, which is two days earlier than planned as the coronavirus has infected people in almost all areas in the country including Gangwon.
The festival’s winter edition, which kicked off on Feb. 9 under the theme “Somewhere in between,” has been held across the Gangwon region and had one more closing concert to go, which was scheduled to take place on Feb. 24 and 25 at the Alpensia Concert Hall.
Pianist Son Yeol-eum, the artistic director of the festival, said that “it is regrettable to end the festival early, but the decision had to be made for the sake of people’s health and safety.”
Son said that the festival will jump right into preparing for the upcoming summer festival, so that it can welcome people back with full programs.
Tickets for MPyC can be refunded by calling (033) 240-1363.
