[CULTURAL HERITAGE ADMINISTRATION]

A wooden seated Amitabha Buddha at Baegyangsa Temple, Jangseong, in South Jeolla, has been designated national treasure No. 2066 by Cultural Heritage Administration on Tuesday. The Buddha is the earliest work of Monk Hyunjin, who is known for a number of signature Buddhist works of the 17th century. The Buddha is estimated to have been made in 1607, predating what was said to be Hyunjin’s earliest work, treasure No. 1686 Wooden Seated Amitabha Buddha at Wolmyeongam Hermitage, Jinju, in South Gyeongsang, which was made in 1612.
