Thirteen Samsung affiliates including Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI donated 50 billion won ($45 million) to the Community Chest of Korea, the electronics maker announced Tuesday.

The year-end donation is intended to benefit people from disadvantaged backgrounds, Samsung said, with accumulated donations amounting to 670 billion won since 1999.

Other participating affiliates are Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities, Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Cheil Worldwide and S-1.

In line with the charity activities, the affiliates will also purchase 300,000 calendars made by nonprofit organizations including Unicef and ChildFund.
