Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl returned to his job Tuesday, after a local court issued an injunction temporarily halting Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae’s order suspending him.

윤석열 검찰총장을 직무배제한 추미애 법무장관의 명령을 서울행정법원이 화요일 일시적으로 효력 정지시키면서 윤석열 검찰총장이 업무에 복귀했다.

Judge Jo Mi-yeon of the Seoul Administrative Court accepted Yoon’s request for an injunction, lifting at least temporarily Choo’s unprecedented order suspending Korea's top prosecutor for alleged breach of political neutrality and illegal surveillance of judges.

서울행정법원 조미연 판사는 윤 총장이 신청한 직무정지 집행정지를 받아들였다. 정치적 중립성 유지 위반과 판사 불법사찰 등을 사유로 전례 없이 검찰총장의 직무를 정지시킨 추 장관의 명령을 효력 정지시킨 것이다.

Away from his office for one week, Yoon returned to the Supreme Prosecutors’ Offi ce around 5:10 p.m. “As a public servant of the country, I promise to everyone that I will do my best to protect the spirit of the Constitution and the rule of law,” Yoon told journalists on his return.

직무에서 배제된 지 일주일 만에 윤 총장은 이날 오후 5시10분쯤 대검찰청으로 출근했다. 윤 총장은 업무에 복귀하면서 기자들에게 “대한민국의 공직자로서 헌법정신과 법치주의를 지키기 위해 최선을 다할 것을 모든 분에게 약속드린다”고 말했다.

On Nov. 24, Choo held a surprise press conference and announced that a Justice Ministry’s internal inspection uncovered six grave charges against Yoon. She immediately suspended him from duty, started a disciplinary process and ordered a criminal probe, prompting speculation that she was trying to dismiss him.

11월 24일 추 장관은 긴급 기자회견을 열고 여섯 가지 중대 징계사유를 들어 윤 총장을 직무에서 즉시 배제한다고 발표했다. 추 장관은 징계절차를 시작했고 검찰수사를 지시했다. 윤 총장을 해직시키려고 한다는 추측이 무성해졌다.

Yoon denied Choo's accusations and stressed that he had never been given a chance to explain his position during the internal inspection. He fi led for an injunction from the Seoul Administrative Court and fi led a lawsuit to invalidate her orders.

윤 총장은 추 장관이 발표한 징계사유를 모두 부인했고 법무부 감찰에서 본인 입장을 소명할 기회도 주지 않았다고 강조했다. 윤 총장은 서울행정법원에 직무정지 집행정지 가처분 신청을 냈고 추 장관의 명령을 무효화하는 소송을 제기했다.
