Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl is promising an aggressive legal battle after a Justice Ministry disciplinary panel suspended him for two months for ethical and legal lapses Wednesday.

법무부 징계위원회가 윤리적 법적 과실을 이유로 윤석열 검찰총장에게 정직 2개월 징계를 결정했다. 윤 총장은 적극적으로 법적 대응을 하겠다고 밝혔다.

“They used an unlawful procedure to kick out a prosecutor general, whose tenure is guaranteed by law, and announced an unfair, illegal conclusion based on unsubstantiated reasons," Lee Wan-kyu, one of Yoon’s lawyers, said in a statement sent to journalists Wednesday.

윤 총장 변호인 이완규 변호사는 수요일 기자들에게 보낸 성명에서 “법으로 임기가 보장된 검찰총장을 쳐내려고 불법적인 절차를 이용했고, 근거 없는 이유들을 들어 공정하지 못하고 불법적인 결론을 발표했다”고 주장했다.

"The prosecution's political neutrality and independence and rule of law are gravely damaged. Yoon will reverse this wrongful decision through a process stipulated in the Constitution and relevant laws,” the statement said.

“검찰의 정치적 중립성과 독립성, 법치주의가 중대하게 훼손됐다. 윤 총장은 헌법과 관련법에 명시된 절차를 통해 잘못된 결정을 바로잡을 것이다.”

A disciplinary panel convened by the Ministry of Justice announced around 4 a.m. that it found Yoon guilty of four counts of ethical and legal misconduct, including ordering illegal surveillance of a judge and violating his duty to maintain political neutrality. The panel said Yoon should be suspended for two months.

법무부가 소집한 징계위원회는 오전 4시쯤 판사 불법 사찰을 지시하고 정치적 중립성 유지 의무를 위반하는 등 4가지 윤리적 법적 위법행위를 했다고 발표했다. 징계위원회는 윤 총장에게 정직 2개월 징계를 내린다고 발표했다.

Later in the day, President Moon Jae-in approved the panel's decision, formally suspending Yoon from duty. Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae also expressed her intention to step down from her post. The Blue House said Moon will take time to think about whether he will accept her resignation or not.

문재인 대통령은 이날 늦게 징계위원회의 결정을 재가해 공식적으로 윤 총장을 정직시켰다. 추미애 법무부 장관은 사의를 표명했다. 청와대는 문 대통령이 시간을 갖고 추 장관의 사의 수락여부를 신중하게 검토할 것이라고 말했다.
