Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics showcased their latest innovations on the first day of the virtual CES 2021 Monday where their eye-popping prototypes — such as a rollable smartphone and “AI influencer” from LG and table-setting robot from Samsung — are set to make a splash.

삼성전자와 LG전자가 온라인으로 진행된 ‘소비자가전박람회(CES) 2021’ 첫날 최신의 혁신 제품들을 선보였다. LG전자의 롤러블 스마트폰과 ‘인공지능 인플루언서’ 같은 놀라운 시제품이 등장했으며 삼성전자는 테이블 셋팅을 하는 로봇을 선보여 사람들을 깜짝 놀라게 했다.

Samsung Electronics unveiled its new robot Handy designed to help with moving and arranging things at home on top of its latest versions of conventional home appliances like televisions and refrigerators.

삼성전자는 냉장고와 텔레비전 같은 일반적인 가전 이외에 핸디라고 하는 새로운 로봇을 출시했는데 핸디는 물건을 옮기거나 정리하는 것을 도와주는 역할을 한다.

Handy is still in development, the electronics maker said, and will likely handle a wide range of household chores.

Also debuting is Samsung’s Jetbot Robot mop, which operates on Intel’s processor Movidius.

삼성전자의 인텔 프로세서 모비디우스를 장착한 로봇청소기 ‘제트봇(Jetbot)’도 선보였다.

The company claims that the vacuum, due to be launched in the first half of this year in Korea and the United States, comes with more improved object detection and avoidance feature thanks to the advanced chip and three-dimensional sensors.

삼성은 이 청소기가 한국과 미국에서 올해 상반기에 출시될 예정이라고 말했다. 이 청소기는 진화된 칩과 3차원 센서 덕분에 물건을 감지하고 피하는 기능이 개선됐다고 한다.

Equipped with Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant, the Jetbot is also voice-activated. The bot also doubles as a camera to monitor pets.

제트봇에는 삼성의 가상 비서인 빅스비가 장착돼 있어서 음성으로도 작동한다. 반려동물을 모니터하기 위한 카메라로도 쓰일 수 있다.

LG is pushing forward with LG Rollable, a smartphone that unfurls like a scroll from one side.

LG는 LG롤러블을 선보였다. 이 스마트폰은 마치 두루마리처럼 한쪽에서 펼쳐진다.

“The LG Rollable smartphone made an appearance at CES, briefly demonstrating its unique resizable screen,” LG said in a statement. “As the second device under the brand’s Explorer Project, this rollable device is an 'exploratory' look at what the future of smartphones may bring.”

LG는 “이 LG롤러블 스마트폰은 CES에서 사이즈가 조절되는 독특한 스크린을 짧게 보여줄 예정”이라며 “익스플로러 프로젝트 전략의 두 번째 제품으로 미래의 스마트폰이 가져다줄 혁신적인 모습이다”라고 말했다.

Another star of the show was Reah Keem, a human-like artificial intelligence chatter bot that LG introduced as “a virtual composer and DJ.” The concept is similar to Samsung's Neon, unveiled at CES last year.

이번 행사에서 또 다른 스타는 ‘김래아’였다. 인공지능 가상인간(챗봇)으로 LG는 “가상의 작곡가이자 DJ”라고 소개했다. 이는 지난해 CES에서 삼성이 선보인 네온과 비슷하다.

Reah’s initial role was to introduce LG’s disinfection robot called CLOi DisinfectBot.Standing at 160 centimeters (5 feet, 3 inches) tall, the autonomous robot uses ultraviolet C (UV-C) light to disinfect an area.

래아의 첫 번째 역할은 ‘클로이 살균봇’이라고 불리는 LG의 방역 로봇을 선보이는 것이었다. 160cm 높이의 자율주행 로봇으로 자외선으로 특정 공간을 살균한다.
