President Moon Jae-in pledged support for vaccinations in developing nations with a $200 million donation to Covax at the Group of Seven, or G7, summit in Britain on Saturday.

문재인 대통령은 토요일 영국에서 열린 G7 정상회의에서 개발도상국에 백신 지원을 위해 코백스(세계 백신 공동 분배 프로젝트)에 한국이 2억 달러를 기부하겠다고 밝혔다.

“To support developing countries with vaccines, Korea plans to donate $100 million this year to the Covax AMC [Covid-19 Vaccines Advance Market Commitment] and donate an additional $100 million in cash or kind next year,” Moon said during the G7 meeting in Cornwall, Britain, which was attended by leaders of the G7 nations and four nations invited as guests including Korea.

문 대통령은 G7 회원국 정상들과 한국을 포함한 4개 초청국 정상들이 참여한 G7 확대 정상회의에서 “개도국에 백신을 지원하기 위해 코백스 AMC(코로나 백신 선 구매 공약 메커니즘)에 한국은 올해 1억 달러를 공여하고 내년에 1억 달러 상당의 현금이나 현물을 추가로 기부할 계획”이라고 밝혔다. G7 정상회의는 영국 콘월에서 열렸다.

Moon was in Britain from Friday to Sunday to attend the summit, joined by First Lady Kim Jung-sook and ruling Democratic Party Reps. Hong Young-pyo and Youn Kun-young.

문 대통령은 G7 정상회의에 참석차 금요일부터 일요일까지 영국을 방문중이다. 영부인 김정숙 여사와 민주당 홍영표 의원과 윤건영 의원이 수행했다.

The G7 summit this year invited the leaders of Korea, Australia, South Africa and India to meetings on global health policies, economic cooperation and climate change. The G7 nations are the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada.

올해 G7 정상회의는 한국, 호주, 남아공, 인도 4개국 정상들을 추가로 초청해 보건정책, 경제협력, 기후변화 등을 주제로 토론했다. 미국, 일본, 독일, 영국, 프랑스, 이탈리아, 캐나다가 G7 회원국이다.

It was the second time that a Korean president joined an expanded G7 meeting. The last was in 2008, when President Lee Myung-bak was invited to the G8, or G7 plus Russia, meeting in Hokkaido, Japan.

한국 대통령이 G7 확대 정상회의에 참여한 것은 이번이 두번째다. 2008년 이명박 대통령이 일본 홋카이도에서 열린 G8(G7+러시아) 정상회의에 초청받은 것이 첫번째다.

In the meeting on global health, Moon suggested that Korea could play a role as a “global vaccine hub.” “Korea is ready for vaccine partnerships with G7 nations,” Moon was quoted as saying by the Blue House. He mentioned a recent agreement between the United States and Korea on vaccine cooperation following a U.S.-Korea summit in Washington last month.

문 대통령은 보건을 주제로 한 회의에서 한국이 “글로벌 백신 허브” 역할을 할 수 있을 것이라고 제안했다. 청와대에 따르면 문 대통령은 “한국은 G7 국가들과 백신 파트너십을 모색할 수 있다”고 말했다. 문 대통령은 지난달 워싱턴에서 한미 정상회담을 열어 한미간 백신 협력에 합의했다고 언급했다.
