Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl announced he is running in next year’s presidential election. Yoon, 60, held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to declare his presidential bid, 117 days after he quit as prosecutor general to protest President Moon Jae-in’s campaign to weaken the powers of the state prosecution service.

윤석열 전 검찰총장이 내년 대선 출마를 선언했다. 윤 전 총장은 화요일 오후 기자회견에서 대선 출마를 선언했다. 문재인 대통령의 ‘검찰 힘빼기’에 저항하다 검찰총장직에서 사퇴한 지 117일 만이다.

“I will bring back the value of fairness that penetrates liberal democracy, rule of law, for our time and all generations,” Yoon said in a news conference at the Yun Bong-gil Memorial in southern Seoul.

윤봉길 의사 기념관에서 열린 기자회견에서 윤 전 총장은 “자유민주주의와 법치, 시대와 세대를 관통하는 공정의 가치를 다시 세우겠다”고 말했다.

Yoon said it is impossible to expect fairness, liberal democracy and innovation from the Moon administration, which has bluntly violated the law in full view of the people. “If the ruling party wins another presidency, it is obvious what kind of a future this country will face,” he said.

윤 전 총장은 국민이 다 보는 앞에서 법을 완전히 위반해온 문재인 정부에게서 공정, 자유민주주의, 혁신을 기대하는 것은 불가능하다고 말했다. 그는 “만약 민주당이 또 다시 대선을 이기면, 이 나라의 미래가 어떻게 될지는 분명하다”고 말했다.

Yoon said a cartel of a few Moon loyalists has monopolized power and built a chain of command with no sense of responsibility or ethics. “They now want to extend their rule to further plunder the people,” he said.

윤 전 총장은 소수의 문 정부 충신들이 권력을 독점하고 책임감이나 윤리의식이 전혀 없는 지휘계통을 조직했다고 말했다. 그는 “이제 그들이 국민을 더 약탈하기 위해 그들의 통치를 연장하려고 한다”고 말했다.

Yoon asked voters to support him in the March 2022 presidential election to “stop a candidate backed by this corrupt, incompetent administration from winning a presidential victory."

윤 전 총장은 “이 부패하고 무능한 정권이 지지하는 후보가 대선에서 승리하는 것을 막기 위해” 2022년 3월 대통령 선거에서 자신을 지지해 달라고 유권자들에게 호소했다.
