Distributor NEW signs deal with Amazon TV to remake film 'The Villainess'

Distributor NEW announced that it has signed a copyright contract with Amazon TV to remake its film “The Villainess” into a series on Monday.

Last year NEW announced that it formed a partnership with Skybound Entertainment to produce the television series.

Jeong Byeong-gil, who directed the original film, will take the helm of the pilot episode and oversee production of the series alongside “Star Trek Beyond” writer Doug Jung. Writer Francisca Hu behind Netflix series “Dynasty” (2017) and the film “Sleepy Hollow” (2013) joined the staff as an executive producer and to write the pilot episode.

“The Villainess” which was invited to screen at Cannes in 2017, will be remade into a television series centering on an Asian woman who was adopted by a white couple and raised in a small city in the U.S. and discovers some dark secrets about her past during a trip she takes to Seoul.
