After the Taliban swept into Kabul on Sunday, the Korean Embassy in the Afghan capital shut down and moved most of its personnel to a country in the Middle East.

일요일 탈레반이 카불을 장악하자 주아프가니스탄 한국대사관을 폐쇄하고 대사관 직원 대부분을 중동의 제3국으로 피신시켰다.

“The ambassador remains, with two other staff members, but most have been evacuated to a third country in the region,” said an official of Korea’s Foreign Ministry on Monday.

evacuate: 대피시키다, 피난하다

외교부 관계자는 “대사와 공관원 2명이 남아 있고, 대부분은 그 지역 제3국으로 대피시켰다”고 월요일 말했다.

Korea's decisions were made as the situation on the ground evolved with incredible speed on Sunday.

incredible: 믿을 수 없는

일요일에 현지 상황이 믿을 수 없을 정도로 긴박하게 전개되자 한국정부는 긴급 철수 결정을 내렸다.

Korean Ambassador to Afghanistan Choi Taeho was actually on the phone with Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong when Taliban forces swept into the city, according to the ministry.

외교부에 따르면, 탈레반이 카불로 진입할 때 최태호 대사는 정의용 외교부 장관과 전화 통화중이었다.

Choi received multiple reports from sources and allied governments about the Taliban's arrival, and was advised to evacuate as soon as possible. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was reported to have fl own out of the country Sunday.

최 대사는 정보원들과 우방국들이 보내준 탈레반의 진입에 관한 다수의 정보들을 받았고. 가급적 빨리 대피하라는 권고를 받았다. 아슈라프 가니 아프가니스탄 대통령은 일요일에 비행기로 출국한 것으로 알려졌다.

“The minister decided to pull the Korean diplomats out of Kabul, except the personnel necessary to help a Korean national evacuate,” the ministry official said. “This was the last Korean citizen left in the country, apart from the diplomats.”

외교부 관계자는 “외교부는 교민 한 명의 대피를 도울 공관원을 제외한 모든 한국 외교관을 카불에서 철수하도록 결정했다. 외교관들을 제외하고는 그 교민이 아프가니스탄에 남아 있는 마지막 한국인이다.”고 말했다.
