BTS can’t make it to MAMA this year

BTS [JOONGANG ILBO]

BTS [JOONGANG ILBO]

BTS will not take part in the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) on Dec. 11 due to newly implemented quarantine measures announced today by the government to prevent the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

Effective from Friday, all people entering Korea from overseas will have to self-quarantine for 10 days.

The boy band is currently in the United States for a series of concerts in Los Angeles, which started on Nov. 27. BTS is also scheduled to appear at a 2021 Jingle Ball Tour in Los Angeles on Dec. 3.

Therefore, its members will be in quarantine when the MAMA is held in Paju, Gyeonggi, on Dec. 11.

Mnet had yet to confirm BTS’s appearance at MAMA, vaguely implying it was “in discussions” with the band. BTS participated in last year’s event, where it won eight awards including all four top honors.

MAMA, hosted by entertainment company CJ ENM, is one of the biggest annual K-pop events.
