Korea's Gim So-hui finished in 39th place in the women's slalom at the National Alpine Skiing Centre in Beijing on Wednesday.

Gim finished her first run with a time of 57.31 seconds to land in 42nd place, taking her out of the top 30 competing for the medal spots. She improved her time on the second run, with a 56.80 good enough to give her a total time of 1:54.11 to jump up to the 39th spot.

In slalom, skiers race down a slope while weaving between a series of posts. In order to stay in the race, skiers have to make very precise movements — slipping or falling in a run leads to a Did Not Finish (DNF) and the athlete is out of the competition.

Korea's Kang Young-seo failed to finish her first run.

Petra Vlhova of Slovakia took the gold medal with a total time of 1:44.98, jumping up from eighth to first place with an exceptionally fast second run. The silver medal went to Katharina Liensberger of Austria and bronze went to Wendy Holdener of Switzerland.
