Actor Lee Young-ae donated 100 million won ($83,470) to Ukraine, according to a post on social media by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Korea on Tuesday.

"We are very excited and touched by the letter and the great financial contribution of the famous Korean actress Lee Young-Ae in support of Ukraine and the demand to end the war as soon as possible!" reads the Tweet by Ambassador Dmytro Ponomarenko. He added that the donations will be used to serve the needs of Ukrainian victims of Russia's invasion.

Ponomarenko included a photo of the check that was sent by Lee and her letter. It reads, "As a family of veterans who have experienced war, I sympathize with the horrors of the current situation more than anyone else."

She continues, "I dearly hope the war in Ukraine comes to an end soon and pray for everyone's well-being and safety. To all the Ukrainian citizens who are calling for freedom and peace, I hope you do not loose your courage and hope. As a citizen of Korea who is also for peace and freedom, I would like to convey my heart through this small gift. May God always be with you."

Lee is a 51-year-old veteran actor who debuted through a chocolate advertisement in 1990. She kicked off her acting career through KBS drama series "How's Your Husband?" in 1993. Some of her prominent works since then include movies "Last Present" (2001), "Lady Vengeance" (2009) and "Bring Me Home" (2018), and dramas "Dae Jang Geum" (2003) and "Saimdang, Memoir of Colors" (2016).
