Doosan Corporation has entered the antenna module business with Movandi, an Irvine, California-based network technology company, shipping the first batch of antenna modules for 5G connectivity.
The company said on Thursday that the modules will be installed in 5G repeaters, network equipment designed to amplify radio signals and help extend coverage in 5G cellular networks.
The module products use Movandi's beamforming technology to better focus a wireless signal towards a specific receiving device, a result of an agreement signed last year.
Doosan Corporation has the exclusive right to manufacture and sell the antenna modules based on Movandi's technology through the agreement, and has a production line for the component in Iksan, North Jeolla.
The first batch of antenna modules were supplied to FRTek, a Korean manufacturer of wireless repeaters.
"Growing network traffic around the globe boosted demand for 5G connectivity," said Yoo Seung-woo, head of the electronics business department at Doosan Corporation.
"The establishment of 5G infrastructure is very brisk. We will continue to win 5G-related business in line with the entry into 5G antenna module business."
Doosan Corporation said network components made of copper clad laminate are of special interest for use in automotive, semiconductor and mobile devices.
