Netflix original documentary series “My Love: Six Stories of True Love,” created by Jin Mo-young, won the award for Best Episodic Series at 2022 International Documentary Association (IDA) Documentary Awards on March 4, Netflix Korea reported Thursday.

The series competed against Netflix’s “Alien Worlds,” “The Surgeon’s Cut,” “Untold” and Apple TV+’s “Becoming You.”

The ceremony was delayed for a month and switched to an online event due to the surge in Covid-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant.

“I want to thank you so much on behalf of our team at Netflix Boardwalk Pictures, producers Sunah Kim, Fiona Hardingham, all six of our producers in all six countries, our directors Elaine Sheldon, Carolina Sa, Chico Pereira, Deepti Kakkar, Fahad Mustafa, Hikaru Toda and of course, the originator of the project, Jin Mo-young,” said the series’ executive producer Xan Aranda. “Most of all, our couples in the six countries who shared their lives with us for a year leading into the pandemic.”

Jin Mo-young is best recognized in Korea for his hit documentary “My Love, Don’t Cross that River” which garnered more than 4.7 million in ticket sales during its release in 2014 — a record-breaking number for an independent documentary. Jin collaborated with Netflix to expand the central theme of his original intellectual property for “My Love” to tell the ever-lasting love stories of six senior couples from the United States, Spain, Japan, Brazil, India and Korea. Jin was the director for the episode focusing on the Korean couple, Jeong Saeng-ja and Cho Yeong-sam.

The IDA Documentary Awards is one of the world’s prestigious event annually dedicated to the documentary genre.
