Nexon launched Dungeon&Fighter Mobile in Korea Thursday morning.
The new online action roleplaying game saw 1.2 million pre-downloads on Google and Apple’s app stores as of Wednesday, the highest for a mobile game released by Nexon.
The game took its retro, two-dimensional anime-style theme from the original PC game of the same name.
Since its release in 2005, Dungeon&Fighter has been one of the most popular titles published by Nexon.
It has 850 million aggregate users around the world and generated $18 billion in revenue, according to Nexon.
It is especially popular in China, where it saw a high of 5 million concurrent players in 2014.
Dungeon&Fighter Mobile was initially planned for a Chinese release on Aug. 12, which was postponed for a system upgrade to “meet the Chinese government’s guidelines,” according to Nexon.
A China release date has not been set. The company is working closely with local publisher Tencent on the upgrade, according to Nexon.
“We are doing our best to start the service in China as fast as we can.”
