Netmarble bought a 17 percent stake in local animation production studio Million Volt for 9.4 billion won ($7.4 million), the company said Tuesday.

Through the deal, Netmarble will get first dibs on creating a game adaptation of the animations produced by Million Volt, including the upcoming new series “Hero Books.”

No plan has yet been set for a specific game, according to Netmarble.

Million Volt is an animation company founded in 2018 by Maeng Joo-gong, the director of the non-verbal animation series “Larva.”

“Hero Books” is one of many works that the company is currently preparing. It will be a comedy action animation where heroes of comic books pop out of a book when their names are called. It is set for global release within the end of the year.

“The investment will strengthen our global competitiveness by securing high-quality content produced by Million Volt,” Netmarble said in a press release. “We will work to create a game that is unique and fun, using Netmarble’s development capabilities.”
