Actor Seo Hyun-jin will transform into a famous lawyer named Oh Soo-jae in upcoming mystery courtroom drama series “Why Her” on SBS.

“I wanted to play a character that I’ve never played before so I decided to take on this role,” said Seo, during an online press conference held on Tuesday for the new drama series. “She has no distinction between good and evil.”

The drama revolves around Soo-jae, whose successful life as the youngest partner at TK Law Firm falls apart when she gets pushed out. She eventually finds a job as a lecturer in a law school. All of these misfortunes happen to her because of “one small decision” she makes.

“Soo-jae only thinks about one thing. She wants revenge and runs toward that goal like a race horse,” said Seo. “Then a man appears into her life, who helps her escape from that desire for revenge. His name is Gong-chan.”

Gong-chan is played by actor Hwang In-yeop.

“Gong-chan and Soo-jae help each other out when they are most troubled,” said Hwang. “As they share their painful wounds, they become closer, and stronger. When I play a character, I get really immersed in them, so much so that I become very calm and have been talking less recently.”

Veteran actor Heo Jun-ho plays a character named Choi Tae-guk, a competitor of Soo-jae. He is the head of TK Law Firm and exploits her talent to get what he wants.

“It’s not a cliche-ridden series that deals with a bad man getting at an innocent woman,” said Heo. “It’s about friction between a bad man and a bad woman. I thought I was the bad guy in the series when the filming began, but as we are in the final stage of shooting, I feel sorry for this guy.”

“Why Her” is set to premiere on June 3 and new episodes will drop every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m.
