Girl group woo!ah! is back with the EP “JOY” (2022), set to drop at 6 p.m. today.

With the lead track “Danger,” the EP has six tracks including “Joyride,” “Go Away,” “Switch Up,” “Straight Up” and “Catch the Stars.”

“Danger” is a play on words. The Korean title is pronounced “dan-geo,” which translates to “something sweet.” The group sings “I’m in love, I’m in danger,” and although the lyrics refer to a love interest as “something sweet,” it has the double meaning that falling too deep in love feels like being in “danger.”

“The song shows our sweet, lovely charms, but it also has powerful choreography,” member Lucy said during a press showcase held at Spigen Hall in Gangnam District, southern Seoul, on Thursday.

All members stressed that the group tried to give off a versatile musical style as a K-pop act.

“We tried to express our colorful sides like a rainbow and had different styles for each of the songs in the album,” Wooyeon said. “The same goes for our choreography and performances. We want to show our passion and energy through ‘JOY.’”

During the showcase, the group performed two songs: “Danger” and “Switch Up.”

The “Danger” choreography includes a special move — the “sugar sprinkling dance,” which sees the members holding up one hand like a plate and using the other hand to mimic sprinkling something.

In “Switch Up,” woo!ah! danced atop school desks wearing loose-fitting school uniforms.

According to Minseo, “Switch Up” is all about positivity, and that even the worst situations can be danced away.

With this comeback, the group says that it seeks to convey hope and dreams, as well as nab its first No. 1 trophy in a weekly music ranking show.
