SK Telecom will hold a series of free concerts every night for a week in its ifland metaverse platform from Monday to Sunday, the telecom company said Monday.

The “Metaverse Music Festival,” featuring eight R&B singers and others, will use a 3-D video technology called volumetric 3-D capture for the first time for an online concert, according to the company.

Volumetric technology uses over 100 cameras to capture a person's movement from all angles and translates the recordings into a 3-dimensional graphic much faster and cheaper than generating computer graphics from scratch.

The singers will be displayed inside ifland, and viewers can take part with their ifland avatars to enjoy the performance and interact with each other.

Singers taking part are: Jujkae, Younha, Jamie, Suran, Minsu, Lee Lu-li, Yoon Ji-young and Youra. The singers will also hold meet and greet events with fans with their avatars on Monday and Thursday.

In August, rock singer Yoon Do-hyun of YB Band and R&B singer 10cm will also hold online volumetric concerts on ifland.

SK Telecom will create other online content using volumetric technology, the company said in a press release.

“We hope that consumers can get to enjoy a new type of realistic content with our ‘Metaverse Music Festival,’” said Yang Maeng-seok, head of SK Telecom’s Metaverse unit. “We will keep providing unique content that can only be enjoyed at ifland.”
