Korean independent film “Anemone: A Fairy Tale for No Kids” featuring actor Jung Yi-rang was listed in the competitive section of the upcoming Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival.

Held in Yubari, Japan, the festival is the oldest international fantastic film festival in Asia, a prestigious event in line with the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Spain and the Oporto International Film Festival, also known as Fantasporto, in Porto, Portugal.

The film, a black comedy, revolves around a day laborer named Yong-ja, portrayed by Jung Yi-rang, going through a bizarre turn of events as her husband miraculously wins the lottery from the numbers she gives him.

Director Jung Ha-yong took the helm of the film. This is the second time Jung Yi-rang has worked with the director, after 2021 independent film “Possessed.”

Jung Yi-rang initially debuted as a comedian in 2005 in SBS’s comedy show “People Looking for a Laugh” (2003-17) and is an active member of comedy show “Saturday Night Live Korea” (SNL Korea) from 2012, a show which initially aired on cable channel tvN, but was later rebooted through local streaming platform Coupang Play in 2021.

She has transited to acting and appeared in drama series such as “Love in the Moonlight” (2016) on KBS, “Borg Mom” (2017) on MBC and Netflix Korea’s sitcom series “So Not Worth It” (2021).

The 32nd edition of the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival runs from July 28 to Aug. 1.
