Applicants from over 60 regions have registered to enter cable channel Mnet’s new global audition show “Boys Planet.”

According to Mnet Thursday, as of 4 p.m. on July 30, hopefuls from 63 regions including Korea, Japan, China, the United States, Britain, France and Germany have applied for the audition show.

“Boys Planet” is the second season of the highly successful audition show “Girls Planet 999” (2021) from which girl group Kep1er was formed. The show featured 99 contestants — 33 each from Korea, Japan and China — and allowed foreign viewers to vote for their favorite hopefuls, meaning the project group accumulated a global fandom even before its official debut.

“Boys Planet,” as the name implies, is Mnet’s attempt to form a boy band. The finalists from the show will debut after the show ends.

The show is expected to air in the first half of next year.

“Global voting for ‘Girls Planet 999,’ accumulated over 128 million,” according to Mnet. “Due to the success of Kep1er, the number of applicants for ‘Boys Planet’ has shot up compared to the prior season.”

Hopefuls for “Boys Planet” can apply until Aug. 21. All males born before Jan. 1, 2010 are eligible to apply as an individual or represented by an agency.
