Kakao Entertainment, Neptune, Colorverse to bring entertainment to metaverse

Kakao Entertainment, Neptune and Colorverse signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to bring Kakao’s entertainment content to the metaverse, the Kakao subsidiaries said Tuesday.

Neptune is a game developer 35-percent owned by Kakao Games, and Colorverse is a metaverse company 44-percent owned by Neptune.

The two companies are jointly developing a new metaverse service named Colorverse. The date of the release has not been decided yet.

Through the MOU, the three companies will take the stories offered on Kakao Entertainment’s web content platforms, Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon, and develop them into 3-D content to be offered on Colorverse when the service starts.

Other content also owned by Kakao Entertainment, such as music and films, may also be used, according to the company.

Colorverse was announced last June as a metaverse service that operates without a separate app, using a technology called web streaming. Users can log on from the web or through the KakaoTalk messenger app.
