Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) is to be sold to Hanwha Group.

The government including the Finance Ministry, Trade, Industry and Energy Ministry and the Korea Development Bank, which holds the largest stake in the Korean shipbuilder, held a meeting on Monday to make a decision on the acquisition.

The state-owned bank holds a 55.7 percent stake in DSME.

DSME was supposed to be sold to Hyundai Heavy Industries. However, the acquisition fell through after European opposition over concerns of Korean shipbuilders’ monopolizing the LNG carrier market.

Hanwha previously attempted to buy DSME in 2008.
