[CELEB] Boy band Cravity meets fans face-to-face to introduce new EP

Boy band Cravity is back and for the first time since its debut celebrating new music with fans in person.

The boy band dropped EP “New Wave” on Tuesday and held a comeback showcase at the Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin District, eastern Seoul. It also livestreamed the showcase via the fan community platform Universe.

“New Wave” has six tracks: “Boogie Woogie,” lead track “Party Rock,” “New Addiction,” “Automatic,” “Colorful” and “Knock Knock.”

Members Serim and Allen took part in writing “Party Rock,” “New Addiction,” “Automatic” and “Colorful.”

“Colorful” is also written by Woobin, and it was his first attempt at writing lyrics for a Cravity song.

The band kicked off the event by performing "Boogie Woogie," the first track of "New Wave," which was revealed in August as Cravity's first English-language single.

Members Serim and Allen, who took part in writing the lead track "Party Rock," a pop-rock dance track with a mix of funk and EDM sounds, expressed their hopes that the lyrics are relatable to fans.

"[When I first heard it,] I was happy that it was a song I could enjoy with Luvity [the name of Cravity's fans]," Serim said.

For "Colorful," "I wrote the lyrics while thinking of the members," Woobin said. "I think that's why it fits well with the band. I liked the version where after the members recorded their parts 200 times better than the demo version with only me."

Cravity made fans laugh with some behind-the-scenes secrets, for instance, Taeyoung said Minhee "would always say he was going to work out, only to find him constantly lying down."

The band also performed "Knock Knock" and "Party Rock."

"It's our first time having a showcase event in person," the band told fans. "It's such a memorable day. We're thrilled being able to look at and hear Luvity right now. We have lots of content in store for you, in addition to our performances on music shows, so please look forward to them."

Cravity is set to appear on Mnet's weekly music ranking show “M Countdown" on Thursday.

Cravity debuted at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, in April 2020 with the EP “Season 1. Hideout: Remember Who We Are” and its lead track “Break All the Rules.”

The band has nine members: Serim, Allen, Jungmo, Woobin, Wonjin, Minhee, Hyeongjun, Taeyoung and Seongmin. Jungmo, Wonjin, Minhee and Hyeongjun previously competed on Mnet’s K-pop survival show “Produce X 101” (2019). Hyeongjun and Minhee landed in fourth and 10th place, earning spots in the project boy band X1 which was active until early 2020.

The band’s name, Cravity, is a compound of the words “creativity” and “gravity.” It aims to attract fans to the band’s universe with its unique charms. According to Cravity's agency Starship Entertainment, the band can also mean “center of gravity,” as it achieves a perfect balance which in turn becomes the best performance only when the members become one.

Over the years, the band has released songs like “Flame” (2020), “My Turn” (2021), “Gas Pedal” (2021), “Adrenaline” (2022) and “Vivid” (2022).

Minhee was a contestant on “Produce X 101” (2019), the fourth season of Mnet’s hit K-pop survival franchise. Landing in 10th place, it earned him a spot in the boy band X1, which consisted of 11 members. Though the band was contracted to be active for five years, it disbanded in less than a year in early 2020 after producer Ahn Joon-young of the show admitted to manipulating the rankings. Minhee then became a member of nine-member boy band Cravity in April 2020 which debuted with the EP “Season 1. Hideout: Remember Who We Are” and the lead track “Break All the Rules.”
