Hyundai Motorsport takes trophies at 2022 FIA WTCR

Car racer Mikel Azcona and his team, the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse, were named champions of the 2022 FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) with Hyundai Motorsport's Elantra N TCR vehicle.

This is the first time for the carmaker to win for both an individual driver and the team. The car used for the race was the Elantra N TCR, the third touring car racing (TCR) model from Hyundai Motorsport.

Hyundai Motorsport’s victory was confirmed at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, when Azcona and the team earned enough points to make them the winners even after they lost the final round on Sunday.

The WTCR is a customer racing competition in which a carmaker’s team cannot participate directly. A professional team buys a sports car and competes.

This is the third time that a team driving Hyundai Motorsport vehicles won the individual championship after Gabriele Tarquini in 2018 and Norbert Michelisz in 2019.
