The LG Twins on Thursday re-signed free agent veteran pitcher Kim Jin-sung on a two year deal worth 700 million won ($530,000).
Kim, who joined the LG Twins this season after playing with the NC Dinos from 2012 to 2021, will earn 400 million won in salary spread over two years with a 300 million won signing bonus.
Kim was drafted by the SK Wyverns — now the SSG Landers — in 2004, but didn't make his KBO debut until 2013 with the Dinos. Kim played mainly as a closer in 2014, then alternated around the bullpen in the following years. In 2020, when the Dinos won the Korean Series, Kim pitched in all six games, picking up three holds and allowing no runs.
Kim has a career 4.41 ERA with 38 wins, 34 losses, 34 saves and 79 holds in 10 years in the KBO. Joining the Twins this season he recorded a 3.10 ERA with six wins, three losses and 12 holds.
“It’s not a substantial deal but I am happy to become a free agent which is a baseball player’s dream,” said Kim on Thursday.
“I am grateful for the club to make my dream come true. I am happy to continue to play with my teammates and for our fans. I feel like I received a big gift toward the end of my career.”
As of press time, there are seven players left in the free agent market: Pitchers Han Hyun-hee, Jeong Chan-heon, Lee Jae-hak, Kang Yoon-goo, infielder Shin Bon-ki and outfielders Kwon Hui-dong and Lee Myung-ki.
