LG Electronics providing free laundry services for earthquake-devastated regions of Turkey

LG Electronics is providing free laundry services for the people in the earthquake-devastated regions of Turkey.

LG Electronics announced on Friday that it opened free laundry shops in eight of the refugee camps in southern regions of Turkey, such as Mersin and Tarsus, with some 120 washers and dryers.

The appliance maker has also stationed service engineers at these sites.

For five of the cities most affected by the earthquake, LG runs shuttles, marked with the message "Bu zor günleri birlikte asacagız" meaning "we will get through this together." The shuttles travel around the cities collecting, fixing and returning damaged appliances.

The company's labor union will chip in with materials required to rebuild social infrastructure such as schools and materials will be purchased with its members' donations.

Employees and board members of LG Electronics have sent necessities such as blankets, clothes and diapers and relief supplies such as generators and flashlights.

Meanwhile, up to 100 tons of donations are coming in to the Turkish Embassy in Korea every day, but only 15 tons of these can be shipped through current flights to Turkey.

However, LX Pantos, the ex-LG affiliate logistics company, announced Friday that it will provide some 261 million won ($200,000) worth of marine transportation for disaster relief to the Turkish Embassy.
