Police reveal data on actor Yoo Ah-in's propofol use
The police received data from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety that Yoo was prescribed propofol 73 times in 2021, with a total dosage of over 4,400 milliliters, significantly higher than the recommended once a month dose of propofol for surgical procedures and medical diagnosis purposes, set by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's drug investigation unit summoned Yoo, whose real name is Uhm Hong-sik, for questioning on Feb. 6 about using propofol for illegal non-medical purposes, which constitutes a violation of the Narcotics Control Act, officials said.
Yoo is also currently under investigation for his alleged illegal use of marijuana after a urine test came back positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on Feb. 10.
Marijuana is illegal in Korea and first-time offenders can be sentenced to up to five years in prison or 50,000,000 won ($39,600) in fines.
