aespa will be back with a new release in May, according to the girl group's agency SM Entertainment on Thursday.

"aespa is currently in preparation for its new album, prepared for release in May," the agency told the Korea JoongAng Daily on Thursday. However, the agency did not confirm if the upcoming release will be a full-length album.

The upcoming album comes months after the group’s second EP “Girls,” released in July 2022.

During the girl group’s first concert, “Synk: Hyper Line” in February, aespa performed 11 new songs — “Menagerie,” “Lips,” “2Hot4U,” “Wake up,” “Thirsty,” “I’m Unhappy,” “Don’t Blink,” “Hot Air Balloon,” “YOLO,” “Salty & Sweet” and “Till We Meet Again.” Though it was not officially announced, many have speculated that the songs revealed during the concert will be included in aespa’s upcoming album.

In February, SM Entertainment’s earnings report uploaded on the group’s website revealed that the girl group’s new music is planned for release in April, after CEO Lee Sung-soo claimed that aespa’s new music, planned for Feb. 20, had to be delayed as the founder Lee Soo-man forced the girl group to sing a song about sustainability.

The quartet debuted in November 2020 with four members: Giselle, Karina, Ningning and Winter. The group is best known for its hit songs “Black Mamba” (2020), “Next Level” (2021) and “Girls” (2022).
