Girl group aespa will release its first full-length album in April, the group's agency SM Entertainment said Monday.
The “Music Line-up Preview” page on SM Entertainment’s earnings release presentation showed that the girl group’s new music is planned for April, alongside singer Taeyeon’s fifth EP and an undisclosed NCT sub-unit's first EP.
The girl group will release “Girls (Don’t you know I’m a savage),” the third episode explaining the girl group’s fictional universe on Wednesday evening. This episode will be the final episode released for the first season of the universe.
According to co-CEO of SM Entertainment, Lee Sung-soo, the girl group’s new music was originally planned for Feb. 20, but had to be delayed due to founder Lee Soo-man’s “greed and stubbornness.” Lee Sung-soo made these remarks in a YouTube video released on Feb. 16.
He also claimed that the founder forced the girl group to sing lyrics that talked about “Just sustainability, bringing down the temperature, co-habitation, Greenism,” making the “aespa members so sad that they filled up with tears.”
“He suddenly started rooting for sustainability [...] And he ordered aespa, whose concept is so well laid-out and clear, to sing a song with the idea of planting trees."
The quartet debuted in November 2020 with four members: Giselle, Karina, Ningning and Winter. The group is best known for its hit songs “Black Mamba” (2020), “Next Level” (2021) and “Girls” (2022).
aespa is also planning its first concert “Synk : Hyper Line” on Feb. 25 and 26, in Jamsil Arena, southern Seoul, followed by concerts in Japan in March and April.
