Kakao Games releases cross-platform MMORPG ArcheAge War
Kakao Games released its newest title ArcheAge War on Tuesday, topping Apple's Korean App Store's popular games chart within five hours of its launch.
“ArcheAge War is a mobile-desktop cross-platform MMORPG that is based on the IP [intellectual property] of the popular PC game ArcheAge,” the publisher told the Korea JoongAng Daily on Tuesday.
In comparison to the original PC game, which focused on the city-building aspect more than the battles, ArcheAge War emphasizes war — hence the name — and will take place in an open world where players are given maximum freedom in what they choose to do within the game, using familiar characters and fictional universe from ArcheAge.
Players will be able to sync their progress between the different platforms.
There are also multiple events and rewards to celebrate the launch of the game.
The ArcheAge franchise, developed by XL Games, is produced by Jake Song, co-founder of Nexon, who is known as the mastermind behind multiple games developed by Nexon in its early days. He is also responsible for the development of NC Soft’s MMORPG Lineage.
XL Games is currently developing ArcheAge 2, the sequel to the 2013 game.
