Executives from Posco Holdings and officials from the government of Argentina break ground on the construction of a 1-trillion-won ($760-million) lithium brine factory near the Salar del Hombre Muerto salt lake in northern Argentina on Wednesday. The construction will be completed in 2025, with an annual capacity of 25,000 tons. The produced brine will be turned into lithium hydroxide to be used as a raw ingredient for cathodes, the critical material of secondary batteries that accounts for 40 percent of the battery cost.
