Gong Yoo's fans make donation to childhood cancer foundation to celebrate actor's birthday

Fans of actor Gong Yoo donated 9 million won ($6,890) to the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation on Monday to celebrate the actor's birthday.
 
The donation was made in the name of the actor's official fan club, YOO & I, to help children fight cancer in time for Gong Yoo's birthday. He was born on July 10, 1979.
 
This is the seventh year that YOO & I has made a donation to go to children's cancer care, according to the foundation. The donations have been given to 10 children with cancer to help with their treatment.
 
"We made the donation hoping to continue actor Gong Yoo's goodwill," the fan club said in a press release.
 
Gong Yoo, whose real name is Gong Ji-cheol, made his debut as a model in 1999 and started his acting career in 2001. He has led some of the biggest dramas and films in Korea, including "Silenced" (2011), "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" (2016–17) and "Train to Busan" (2016).
 
He is set to take part in the second season of the Netflix original series "Squid Game" (2021).
