NewJeans reaches new high with "Super Shy"

Girl group NewJeans [ADOR]

Girl group NewJeans [ADOR]

Girl group NewJeans’ single “Super Shy” reached No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 according to the chart on Tuesday, a new high for the girl group.

"Super Shy" dropped on July 7 as a pre-release track from NewJeans' upcoming EP "Get Up." It is NewJeans' third song in total to land on the Billboard Hot 100, following "OMG", peaking at No. 74 and "Ditto" peaking at No.82.

The girl group currently has the most Hot 100 singles among fourth-generation K-pop groups, which generally refer to those who debuted in the 2020s.

NewJeans' EP "Get Up" will be released Friday at 1 p.m. The EP will contain a total of six tracks, “New Jeans,” “Super Shy,” “ETA,” “Cool With You,” “Get Up” and “ASAP.”

NewJeans debuted in August 2022 with five members — Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein — under ADOR, a newly-founded music label under HYBE, led by the former creative director of SM Entertainment, Min Hee-jin.

NewJeans has been one of the biggest names in K-pop ever since its debut; its hits "Ditto," "OMG" and "Hype boy" (2022) were the three most-streamed and downloaded songs in the first half of 2023, and the band's debut track "Attention" (2022) was the seventh most-streamed and downloaded song in Korea, according to music sales tracker Circle Chart. The band received awards from major domestic music awards ceremonies such as the 2023 Golden Disc Awards, the 20th Korean Music Awards, the 32nd Seoul Music Awards and the Asia Artist Awards.
