Girl group NewJeans’s latest EP, “Get Up,” sold over 1.65 million copies in the first week of its release, making it the second most-sold K-pop album by a female artist in the first week of its release.
NewJeans’s album sales have been increasing rapidly. The girl group’s debut EP, “New Jeans” (2022), sold 310,000 units in the first week of its release, making it the most-sold rookie K-pop girl group album in the first week of its release. “OMG,” NewJeans’s single that dropped in January this year doubled its first-week sales, selling over 700,000 units.
Out of the 1.65 million copies sold in the first week of its release, 1.2 million copies were sold during the first day of its release, July 21, according to the girl group’s agency ADOR.
First-week album sales are an important record to both the artists and the fans of K-pop since it is an indicator that shows the size and power of its core fandom.
NewJeans’s latest album is also seeing solid results abroad, with the EP landing No. 2 on Billboard Global 200, No. 64 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and No. 59 on UK Official Singles chart, highest-ever scores for the girl group.
NewJeans debuted in August 2022 with five members — Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein — under ADOR, a newly-founded music label under HYBE, led by the former creative director of SM Entertainment, Min Hee-jin.
“Get Up” is the girl group’s second EP featuring six total tracks, “New Jeans,” “Super Shy,” “ETA,” “Cool With You,” “Get Up” and “ASAP.” “Super Shy,” “ETA” and “Cool With You” are all lead tracks of the album, and all six tracks in the album last less than 3 minutes, making the entire EP only 12 minutes and 11 seconds in length.
