The Joseon Tongsinsa ship departs for Japan from a port in Busan on Tuesday. This is the first time in 212 years that the ship, which was reconstructed by the National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage, has made a voyage to Japan. The vessel docked at the Hitakatsu port in Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, later Tuesday before continuing onward to nearby Izuhara port on Wednesday. The Joseon Tongsinsa was a diplomatic mission that was sent to Japan 12 times between 1607 and 1811. The Korean delegation exchanged communications and knowledge about medicine, Confucianism, music and the arts with the Tokugawa shogunate. [YONHAP]
