Posco awards scholarship to under-resourced domestic, international students
Posco TJ Park Foundation held a scholarship award ceremony for the students who won its Posco Asia Fellowship and Posco Vision Scholarship, it announced Thursday.
The foundation presented scholarship certificates to 17 Posco Asia Fellowship recipients and 47 Posco Vision Scholarship winners at the Posco Baegunsan Traning Center in Gwangyang, South Jeolla, on Tuesday.
The Posco Asia Fellowship offers full tuition and living allowances to selected students from Asian countries pursuing master's or doctorate degrees in Korea.
The Posco Vision Scholarship is awarded to under-resourced first-year undergraduate students who are either from or finished high school in Pohang, North Gyeongsang, and Gwangyang, offering 5 million won ($3,782) annually to fund their studies for a maximum of seven semesters.
This is the first time the foundation hosted a joint scholarship award ceremony, aiming to bring Korean and international students together for a networking opportunity.
The foundation will provide the recipients with additional opportunities, such as mentorship programs, Korean culture experience programs and overseas trips.
"Starting with the joint scholarship award ceremony, we hope our Posco TJ Park Foundation scholars all around the world continue to network, learn about different cultures and become role models for each other," Kim Sun-uk, chair of Posco TJ Park Foundation, said.
"We hope our Posco Vision Scholarship students take inspiration from our Posco Asia Fellowship students who came all the way to Korea to achieve their dreams, also branching out to countries abroad to exhibit their talents and skills."
